5 time outs for moms.

We all know by now that “me time” and “self care” are important, even advocated in the mommy Instagram and TikTok worlds. But what does it actually look like for each individual? How does it look when YOU get some time to yourself or even some time away from the world of caring and loving kids, especially neurodivergent kids?

I have found some easy options within my lifestyle and budget that work for me.

5 TIME OUTS FOR MOMS

  1. I sit outside on my patio with a drink (hot, cold, soda, wine), and tell my kids mommy is having quiet time. Just 20min for quick reset.
  2. I enjoy the outdoors, but budget and timing don’t always allow for outdoor adventures, so I have cultivated a love of working in my garden. I have a small veggie garden growing, and tending to and working with my hands in the soil is grounding (excuse the pun)
  3. Get to school pick up 15min early. Have a snack and a coffee in the car, listen to some music and just take a few deep breaths. It helps clear the mind and relax your body from the tension.
  4. Have coffee with a friend. Or dinner out, or a brunch or a takeaway coffee on a bench. Just talk about silly stuff and forget about your problems and stresses for 45min.
  5. Grocery shopping, but make it relaxed. Sometimes, when I’m not in a rush, I take my time in the grocery store. I switch off to all the noise around me and take a slow amble with my trolley around the shop, looking at all the products and just letting my mind wander. Just set an alarm, cause I get totally lost in thought and forget when to leave.

Just remember, these things have no schedule, there is no “daily plan”, no routine to this. Guage yourself and Mark when you’re getting overwhelmed (I start snapping at everyone) then you’ll know when you need a breather. Pick 5 things you can do within your means and pick one when you need it.
