As a parent of a SPD kid, I know all too well what it’s like when my temper is triggered. I have my own issues (including severe depression and anxiety) and those get triggered when my SPD kid is triggered, and so I have to watch my reaction to him and instead shift to make an appropriate response.
This learning curve of responding appropriately versus reacting has taken YEARS for me to establish, and I still don’t get it right all the time. I read this article by Dr Laura Markham, and it really put it so beautifully and thoughtfully the process of handling our own anger as parents when our kiddos trigger us.
